ROTARY WEEK VOL 4 NO 27


FELLOW ROTARIAN JOHN GILROY GAVE THE PROGRAM TODAY ON HOW TO SAVE MORE MONEY REGARDING YOUR IRS TAXES.

OVER 300 PEOPLE WILL BE HEARING FELLOW ROTARIAN ASHER SCHROEDER
GIVE A SPEACH IN CEDAR RAPIDS.
PRESIDENT SALLY WILL DRIVE ASHER TO CEDAR RAPIDS MAY 22ND AND
THERE IS ROOM IN FOR ANYONE ELSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND.

ROTARY MEETING THIS WEEK AT  CAMP SHALOM, RUN BY FELLOW ROTARIAN TOM BLEY.
THE DINING ROOM AT CAMP SHALOM..
KITCHEN UP A COUPLE STEPS IN    BACK AND TO LEFT.  
TOM AT RIGHT AND TWO STAFF FULL-TIME MEMBERS.

NICE CAMP, OFF CAVES ROAD JUST NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA, STARTED BY ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN 
CHURCH  AT DAVENPORT BUT NOW
RUN INDEPENDENTLY, NON DENOMINATIONAL, AND STILL WITH
SUPPORT OF ST. PAUL'S. TOM HAS
BEEN MANAGER FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
GUEST SPEAKER TODAY WAS ANN McGLYNN, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS FOR ST. PAUL'S
LUTHERAN CHURCH IN DAVENPORT.
SHE TALKED ABOUT A REFUGE FAMILY ST. PAUL'S IS HELPING RESETTLE FROM UGANDA, THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH WORLD RELIEF OF MOLINE.   THE FAMILY INCLUDES A MOTHER (NOELA) AND SIX CHILDREN.
THEY ARE DOING WELL, LIVING IN A HOME OFFERED BY A ST. PAUL MEMBER.   NOELA IS WORKING AS DISHWASHER AT A BAKERY AND ATTENDING ENGLISH LESSON CLASS.   ALL OF THE CHILDREN ARE IN SCHOOL OR DAYCARE.    EMAIL TOM IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT CAMP SHALOM OR ST. SOME ROTARY MEMBERS MAY REMEMER "CITIZEN OF THE WEEK", DONE
BY ROTARIAN VOY.    FIRST ONE WAS NOV 17, 2003 AND FINAL ONE WAS
IN EARLY MARCH, 2005.   IT WAS A LOT OF WORK, BUT POPULAR.   THERE WAS ONE EVERY WEEK, NEVER MISSED.    COPIES ARE SOMEWHERE AT
KMAQ.    ABOVE IS LISTED ROTARY'S OLD WEB SITE.    DOROTHY JONES
AND DOLORES KLEIN ARE NO LONGER LIVING.

WENDY SCOTT GAVE THE PROGRAM TODAY, APRIL 5TH AND TOLD ABOUT
HER BUSINESS, "RONANN'S FLORAL SHOP AND GARDEN CENTER" ON
WEST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA, AT THEIR NEW LOCATION AND BUILDING
NEXT TO TACO JOHNS.     THE BUSINESS IS 62 YEARS OLD,  AND WAS       STARTED BY  HER PARENTS, RON AND ANN MEADE.   SHE REALLY LIKES
HER NEW BUILDING AND GIFT SHOPPE AND HAS HAD MANY GREAT
COMMENTS FROM HER CUSTOMERS.    SHE HAS 5 FULLTIME EMPLOYEES
AND SEVERAL PART TIME AND SADLY MENTIONED THAT HER LONGTIME
EMPLOYEE, DUNES SCHROEDER, RECENTLY WAS DIAGNOSED WITH
PANCREATIC CANCER.     THEREFORE IS NOW WORKING JUST A COUPLE
HOURS A DAY WHILE RECEIVING TREATMENT.  

SCOTT, DID YOU REALLY EAT ALL OF IT?
THERE WAS DESSERT TOO!
