ROTARY WEEK VOL 4 NO 1

PLEASE NOTE ABOVE...

THIS ROTARY WEEK  IS   VOL  4   NO 1     .....THE START OF THE 4TH YEAR FOR THIS WEEKLY REPORT.

I HAVE COMPLETED 156 REPORTS....WITHOUT SKIPPING A WEEK.

IT HAS OVER 51,000 HITS ON THE COUNTER.   THAT MEANS IN THE PAST 3 YEARS,  51,000 TIMES IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP AND LOOKED AT.

COACH KEVIN BOWMAN WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER TODAY.   HE JUST FINISHED HIS 29TH YEAR AS A FOOTBALL COACH AT MAQUOKETA HIGH,
ABOUT HALF AS JV COACH AND OTHER AS VARSITY.     LAST YEAR, WAS A YEAR OF 7  WINS INCLUDING A PLAYOFF VICTORY.   THIS YEAR, JUST ONE WIN, BUT A GOOD ONE BECAUSE IT WAS OVER DEWITT.
HE SAID NUMBERS ARE SHRINKING IN ALL SPORTS AND SAYS ONE OF THE
REASONS IS THAT KIDS (WITH PARENT BACKING) ARE SPECIALIZING
IN A SPORT.    THEY MAY  START OUT IN AAU IN GRADE SCHOOL IN A SPORT,
LIKE BASKETBALL, AND DECIDE THEY WANT TO DO THAT SPORT ONLY AND
BECOME GOOD IN IT, MAYBE GOOD ENOUGH TO GET A SCHOLARSHIP
FOR THE SPORT.    ALSO, HE SAID YEARS AGO WHEN HE STARTED COACHING, THERE WERE 5 SPORTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, NOW A DOZEN.    RESULT BEING.....NOT ENOUGH KIDS TO GO AROUND.

FELLOW ROTARIAN CLYDE HARPER HAS RETIRED AND HAS MOVED TO
DUBUQUE.    TODAY, HE ATTENDED HIS FINAL MEETING AS A MEMBER.
HE PLANS TO VISIT AS A GUEST NOW AND THEN.    HE HAS BEEN THE MEMBER GIVING THE "BLESSING"  EACH WEEK, A PRAYER JUST AFTER DINNER AND BEFORE THE START OF THE MEETING. .  HE WILL PROBABLY JOIN THE ROTARY CLUB IN DUBUQUE.    WE WILL MISS HIM!
