GOT A NEW SIGN OUT FRONT AT DUTRAC....NOW GETTING NEW OFFICE THAT
REQUIRED HIS BEING THERE TODAY.     GOOD TIMES AT DUTRAC.

GUEST SPEAKER TODAY,  (10-9-19)  DR. SAM WILLIAMS.    MARION NATIVE NOW
ON ONE-YEAR INTERNSHIP AT OSTERHAUS PHARMACY.    LOVES MAQUOKETA AND
TOLD WHY......LISTING WHAT HE HAS SEEN AND LIKES ABOUT THE CITY.

BRIAN BOPES WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER OCT 2ND.
FIREMAN BOPES IS MAQUOKETA'S FIRE PREVENTION WEEK CHAIRMAN...
AND THAT IS MAINLY WHAT HE TALKED ABOUT.
HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT THEY HAVE OPENINGS FOR MORE MEMBERS OF THE
DEPARTMENT AS THEY ARE UNDER ABOUT 6 MEMBERS.
ALSO SAID THEY ARE GETTING A NEW TRUCK  YET THIS YEAR.

FIRES ARE DOWN IN THE AREA....GOOD NEWS....
AND FIREMEN SPEND MOST THURSDAYS AT THE FIRE STATION, TRAINING, AND
LEARNING MORE.    ALSO WORKING ON EQUIPMENT.
HIS DAY JOB IS AT MAQUOKETA STATE BANK.

PRESIDENT JACOB PRESENTS $2,000 CASH
FOR WINNING THE "REVERSE RAFFLE"
THIS WEEK....TO KEVIN LAHEY OF MAQUOKETA.

FELLOW ROTARIAN TOM BLEY HAD THE
PROGRAM TODAY AND HAD NO GUEST,
BUT DID THE PROGRAM HIMSELF.
TODAY, 9-11 DAY, HE FIRST PLAYED THE
SONG BY ALAN JACKSON (WHERE WERE
YOU) THAT WAS ABOUT THE TRAGIC 
DAY AND THEN HE ALONG WITH OTHER
MEMBERS DISCUSSED THE DAY, SOME
TELLING WHERE THEY WERE AND WHAT
THEY WERE DOING WHEN THE PLANES
FLEW INTO T HE WORLD TRADE CENTER
18 YEARS AGO.    A GOOD PROGRAM BY TOM.

ROTARY PROGRAM SEPTEMBER 4TH.     NATHAN WOODWARD, WHO WITH PARTNER
OWN SQUIRE'S MANOR BED AND BREAKFAST.    HAVE OWNED IT NOW JUST OVER
A YEAR.    SOLD HOME IN CALIFORNIA AND BOUGHT SQUIRE'S MANOR TO
DO SOMETHING THEY HAD NEVER DONE BEFORE.     THEY LIKE IT HERE!   HAVE MADE SOME MINOR CHANGES AND NATHAN SAYS BUSINESS IS GOOD.    HAVE STARTED A PRICY SATURDAY NIGHT (DELICIOUS) DINNER FOR TOTAL OF 12 THAT IS GOING OVER WELL.   BY RESERVATIONS ONLY AND OPEN TO ANYONE.   NOT JUST
OVERNIGHT GUESTS.   FIVE COURSE MEAL.    HAVE IT REGARDLESS OF HOW
MANY RESERVE TO COME.      NATHAN WAS IN FILM (MOVIE) PRODUCTION IN CALIFORNIA AND WITH A NEWLY ORGANIZED COMMITTEE IS PLANNING  A FIRST-EVER MAQUOKETA FILM FESTIVAL FOR NEXT OCTOBER.   NO FAMILY, SO NATHAN
HAS TIME FOR BED AND BREAKFAST AND THE FESTIVAL.

IT IS "BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK".



AT ROTARY THIS WEEK.....A COUPLE ROTARY DISTRICT GRANT CHECKS
(GRANTS MAQUOKETA ROTARY APPLIED FOR) WERE PRESENTED TO PRESIDENT JACOB BY ROTARIAN SARAH PINION.
ONE FOR THE DOG PARK PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,689 AND
THE OTHER FOR THE PLAYGROUND PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OIF $4,688.




MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DIRECTOR WENDY McCARTT WAS
GUEST SPEAKER TELLING ABOUT ALL THE UPCOMING CHAMBER EVENTS.

BAD RAINY WEATHER  CUT DOWN ATTENDANCE WITH ABOUT 50 ON
HAND TO ENJOY JAY KAHN AND  HIS VOLUNTEER BAND.

ROTARY WEEK VOL 6 NO 31


JUNE 12, 2019 MEETING HEARD JUDGE TABOR TALK.
PHIL TABOR OF MAQUOKETA IS A 7TH JUDICIAL ASSOCIATE  DISTRICT JUDGE,
COVERING SEVERAL COUNTIES.   HE SPENDS MOST OF HIS TIME IN CLINTON
COUNTY AND COMES TO JACKSON COUNTY ONCE A MONTH FOR JUVENILE
CASES.    HIS  WIFE NANCY IS FULL JUDGE, NOT ASSOCIATE, IN THE 7TH DISTRICT TOO AND HAS COMPLETED 20 YEARS AND WILL RETIRE IN SEPTEMBER.
BOTH HAVE HANDLED THOUSANDS OF CASES.   PHIL MENTIONED NO RETIREMENT
PLANS AND WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO GROW AND DISTRIBUTE SOME OF THE
BEST SWEETCORN IN HIS DISTRICT.    IT IS A FUN TIME HOBBIE FOR HIM EACH
SUMMER.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19TH, NO NOON-TIME MEETING AND INSTEAD THE
ANNUAL ROTARY ICE CREAM AND HOME-MADE CAKE SOCIAL AND BAND
CONCERT AT THE FAIRGROUNDS, STARTING AT 5:30.     GOOD FUN, CONVERSATION,
CAKE, ICE CREAM AND BEVERAGE...ALL FREE FOLLOWED BY THE TIMBER
CITY BAND DIRECTED BY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR JAY KAHN,
AND CONSIDERED A WORLD-AUTHORITY ON BAND MUSIC.     JAY AND HIS
HIGH SCHOOL AND OLDER BAND MEMBERS HAVE PLAYED FOR ROTARY, AT
NO CHARGE, FOR UMTEEN YEARS.    BUT, EVEN LONGER, MUCH LONGER,
THE YEARS THAT ROTARIAN TED MAZE HAS BEEN CHAIRMAN OF THE
ICE CREAM AND BAND EVENT.

THE ROTARY PROGRAM TODAY WAS DONE BY HEATHER MOORE, WHO WITH
HUSBAND BRANDON, OWN MOORE FARMS BUSINESS IN MAQUOKETA.
SHE TOLD ABOUT THEIR NEW LOCATION ON WEST PLATT STREET ACROSS
FROM DOLLAR GENERAL THAT OPENED LAST WEEK.    IT IS MUCH LARGER
THAN THE OLD LOCATION ACROSS FROM THE THEATRE AND  HAS A FREE
PARKING LOT.     THE MOORES HAVE 4 CHILDREN.   SHE HELD THE BABY WHILE GIVING HER PROGRAM AND A LITTLE OLDER SON WAS ALSO IN ROOM
WITH MOM.

GUEST OF DENNIS AND NANCY WAS CARTER DWYER, JUNIOR AT CAL-WHEAT AND
"SHADOWING" AT KMAQ.    HE WOULD DO WELL IN RADIO.....GOOD VOICE AND READER.   NEVER HAD BEEN TO A SERVICE CLUB MEETING.    THIS SUMMER..
WHEN HIGH SCHOOL KIDS HAVE TIME, INVITE A HIGH SCHOOLER TO A MEETING.
WE NEED TO GET THEM THINKING EARLY ABOUT IMPORTANCE TO A COMMUNITY
OF A SERVICE CLUB.


BIG TURN OUT.  IF REGULARS SALLY, ROGER AND  ASHER WOULD HAVE BEEN
AT MEETING, WE WOULD HAVE HAD A FULL HOUSE AND WOULD HAVE  HAD
TO BRING IN MORE CHAIRS.      WHERE WERE THEY????


DEPUTY SCHROEDER HAD THE PROGRAM ABOUT THE PROPOSED NEW JAIL AND
THE NEXT BOND ELECTION AUGUST 6TH.     MOST IF NOT ALL MAQUOKETA ROTARIANS ARE IN FAVOR OF THE CURRENT PLANS.

ABOUT THE HUMANE SOCIETY AND SHELTER JUST NORTHEAST OF MAQUOKETA.   SHE LOVES ANIMALS, WITH  DOGS, CATS,  DONKEYS AND HORSES ON
THEIR (KEN) FARM EAST OF MAQUOKETA.    NO ANIMALS ARE PUT DOWN BY THE  JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY.   THIS MORNING, FOR ADOPTION,
23 CATS AND 18  DOGS.

THE ANNUAL ROTARY SENIOR SCHOLAR DINNER DATE IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 8TH, AT 6 P.M. AT THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA.
