BIDDING DEADLINER, NOON MONDAY
THE GUEST SPEAKER AT ROTARY TODAY, NOVEMBER 12TH, WAS GINGER SCHOOP OF ANDREW, AND THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE
ANNA B. LAWTHER ACADEMY IN MAQUOKETA.
THE ACADEMY IS LOCATED IN THE ROSENBERG BUILDING JUST NORTH OF OLD CITY HALL. THE ACADEMY WAS FORMERLY NAMED, THE HILLCREST SCHOOL. IT WAS THEN, AND IS NOW, A DIVISION OF HILLCREST FAMILY SERVICES AND IT HAS PRE-SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS OF ALL AGES FROM THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. IT GETS LOTS OF HELP FROM THE ANDREW AMVETS, THE MAQUOKETA YMCA, AND METHODIST AND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES. IT GENERALLY HAS FROM 25 TO 30 STUDENTS EACH YEAR AND IT HAS A STAFF OF 17 AND HAS A NECESSARY HIGH TEACHER TO STUDENT RATIO.
GINGER IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE ACADEMY AND BROUGHT ALONG
SEVERAL STUDENTS WHO YOU COULD TELL, LIKE THE SCHOOL AND GINGER.
HER ACADEMY IS A REAL ASSET TO MAQUOKETA WITH SO MANY ONE-OF-A-KIND PERSONS AND PLACES. THANKS TO ROTARIAN ASHER SCHROEDER
FOR SCHEDULING THE PROGRAM ABOUT MAQUOKETA'S ACADEMY.
